GPT-6 exists. Use the exact model name.
OpenAI has published an official announcement for GPT-6 Sol and Luna. Their documented API IDs are gpt-6-sol and gpt-6-luna.
OpenAI describes Sol as a model for complex coding and agentic workflows, and Luna as an efficient model for focused, high-volume tasks. Those descriptions do not tell you which model will work best in your project. Confirm account access and compare a small task before committing to a longer run. The Sol page also points to the newer GPT-6.1 Sol; do not silently substitute it for gpt-6-sol in a saved configuration.
A chat response is not a working coding agent
Both model pages recommend the Responses API for built-in tools and function calling. For Chat Completions, function calling is supported only when reasoning_effort is set to none.
That distinction matters. A client may send ordinary messages successfully but fail when the model needs to call a tool or continue after a tool result. “OpenAI-compatible” is not enough information to establish that the complete workflow works.
What this means for Claude Code
Anthropic's gateway documentation explicitly says it does not support routing Claude Code to non-Claude models through any gateway. A third-party translation layer is therefore not an officially supported GPT-6 integration.
If you evaluate one, check which OpenAI API it uses, which model IDs it maps, how it handles tool calls and which client versions it has been tested with. We have not verified a specific translation layer for this guide.
Check configuration without guessing credentials
- Confirm the exact model.Check account access to gpt-6-sol or gpt-6-luna rather than entering a family name or nickname.
- Confirm the API.Match the gateway's upstream API and parameters to the model's documented tool requirements.
- Separate gateway and provider credentials.ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL identifies the gateway. Its token or API key may be different from the OpenAI credential used upstream.
- Keep the first test reversible.Save your current settings and use a test project without sensitive files.
- Verify tools, not just text.Require a tool request, a successful result and a follow-up response before trusting the connection for a longer task.

Budget for model usage separately
OpenAI's model pages list input, output and cached-token prices, along with conditions that can change the bill. Tool calls and processing options can add or change charges. Check the model page for your selected model and set a budget before a long agent run.
A free desktop download does not include paid OpenAI API usage. If you use a gateway service, check its fees as well.

Installation and costs: what to check first
Use the official Wuwei site on a desktop computer and select a package that matches your operating system and processor. Check Apple Silicon versus Intel on a Mac. Do not use a mismatched build if your platform is not offered.
Read Wuwei's current pricing before selecting hosted access. With your own provider key, usage is billed by that provider; hosted services have their own terms. Start in a test folder and review permissions before allowing file edits or commands. Installing a different client does not establish GPT-6 compatibility by itself.
